A pedestal lavatory is a wall-hung lavatory sink with a pedestal below it.  They are often chosen because they take up less space than a vanity.  A pedestal lavatory looks more elegant than a wall-hung lavatory.  The bowl is available with four-inch drilling for a standard lavatory faucet or eight-inch drilling for a widespread lavatory faucet.

A Pedestal Lavatory Requires A Wall Mount Bracket

The pedestal lavatory should have a wall mount bracket just like a wall hung lavatory.    Cheap low grade pedestal lavatory sinks do not have a mounting bracket.   I would not recommend any pedestal lavatory that does not have a wall mount bracket.  The wall mount bracket requires proper wood backing in the wall for stable mounting.

Match Your Pedestal Lavatory Trim To Your Faucet

The trim is visible under a pedestal lavatory sink.  It is common to install trim that is the same color and finish as the lavatory faucet.  The common choices of finish for trim are polished chrome, brushed nickel, and oil rub bronze.  Keep this in mind when choosing your angle stop valves, escutcheons, supply tubes, and p-trap.  You will want to match the finish and color you have chosen for your bathroom.

Faucet and Pop-up Replacement On A Pedestal Lavatory Require the Bowl To Be Removed From the Wall

When you are ready to change out the faucet and pop-up assembly in an older pedestal lavatory you will have to remove the bowl from the wall in order to install your new faucet and pop-up.
