Kitchen sink drain leak repair
Quite often customers contact me to repair a drain leak under a kitchen sink. Often their sink base cabinet has been destroyed by water damage. They did not notice the leak until it was too late. When kitchen sink base cabinets are full of cleaning products the floor of the cabinet is not visible. A leak is easy to miss.
A water stain is common when a kitchen sink drain leaks.

Water Stain is one of the easiest ways to notice a leak. When you have a leak it is common for the pathway of the water to create a stain. You can often see this water stain trail running down from the strainer basket along the tailpiece down to the P- trap. It is wise to periodically check for water stain when retrieving an item from under the sink,

A Cross threaded nut will leak
A cross threaded basket strainer nut will cause the basket strainer to leak and need repair.

A cross threaded slip joint nut is another common leak I find when inspecting kitchen sink drains for leaks.

Dishwasher drain connections are mechanical joints that can leak.
A dishwasher drain connection to kitchen sink drain or disposal is a potential leak source. The most common connection is made with a PVC DW Wye Tailpiece as seen below. Another common way to drain the dishwasher is to connect to the drain port on a food grinder/disposal. The end of the dishwasher drain tube has a rubber adapter. A stainless hose clamp creates the watertight seal. This is a mechanical joint.

I run the dishwasher on a quick cycle to inspect the connection for leaks.
