A pressure-reducing valve (PRV) repair is required when your pressure-reducing valve fails. With age, a pressure-reducing valve will fail.

What Does A Pressure-Reducing Valve Do?

A pressure-reducing valve will reduce the pressure from your water service piping supplying your home. A PRV is adjustable from twenty-five PSI to seventy-five PSI.  Fifty PSI is a common working pressure for your home’s domestic water supply system.

Why do you need a Pressure Reducing Valve?

A PRV is required when your home’s water pressure exceeds 80 PSI. This high supply pressure is common if your home’s water source is your local municipality or a community well.   A municipal water system often supplies your home with more than 100 PSI.

Symptoms that you need a PRV repair.

A failed PRV can cause low water pressure. More commonly, it can cause high water pressure. Increased pressure will increase the chances of a leak.  A failed PRV can cause water to leak from the temperature pressure relief valve on your water heater. A failed PRV can also cause a low water supply. When you turn on more than one faucet your pressure dramatically decreases.
