Are you dreaming of a new beautiful bathroom? Do you want to get rid of an old stained Fiberglass Tub Shower Enclosure? Follow along with Plumber John in “Remove A Tub Shower Enclosure”. The first chapter of a Bathroom Remodel. This week in “Tales From The Jobsite”
Prep to remove a Tub Shower Enclosure
To remove a tub shower enclosure, I first remove the baseboard and shoe molding at the tub.
Mark Lines To Remove Sheetrock
I use my level to mark lines just outside the edge of the headwall mud flange. These lines extend above the shower headwall to above the showerhead stub out.
Cut and Remove Sheetrock
Next, I cut along the lines with my razor knife. Then I remove the sheetrock. Once the sheetrock is removed I can see the mud flange nailed to the studs. I now can remove the nails from the mud flange.
Above the shower headwall, I remove the sheetrock to expose the drop-ear ell. This is the showerhead outlet. It is the fitting in the wall I screw the shower arm into. The showerhead mounts on the shower arm.
Remove Tub Shower Trim
I remove the trim from the shower valve/faucet/mixer. Then I remove the trim from the drain overflow assembly.
Remove Shower Walls
Now I can begin to remove the tub shower enclosure. I start with the headwall. Once removed, I expose the shower valve/faucet/mixer.
Remove Tub
Once I remove the shower walls, I then can remove the tub.
Shower Valve & Drain Overflow Rough-In
The shower valve/faucet/mixer and tub drain/overflow assembly are now visible. This is called the tub shower rough-in.
