A Kitchen sink is available in many different materials, colors, and designs. They typically come in one or two bowl configurations. The standard size is 22” x 33”. The most common are stainless steel. A lower-grade stainless steel kitchen sink will be manufactured with a thinner gauge of metal. A high quality thicker gauge stainless steel kitchen sink can have a similar cost to an enameled cast iron kitchen sink. Enameled cast iron is great for longevity. It is a very heavy kitchen sink. I like the composite granite kitchen sink. The black granite looks great even if you have not cleaned it in a while. A solid surface kitchen sink might be an option when installing solid surface countertops. The cast acrylic kitchen sink was designed to compete with the cast iron kitchen sink. They look great when they are new. They are much lighter than cast iron. They definitely do not have the longevity of cast iron. I have had a lot of clients with chipped or cracking cast acrylic kitchen sinks that need to be replaced. Be aware of how many holes are drilled in the sink. It is wise to first choose your kitchen faucet and other appurtenances. Your faucet may require one, two, or three-hole drilling in order to mount it. If you want a soap dispenser then it needs a hole. You may want a reverse osmosis water filtration system under your sink for purified drinking water. It will require a hole for the miniature faucet dispenser that supplies the filtered water. A composite granite kitchen sink will typically come with multiple knock-outs so you can knock out as many holes as needed for your configuration. When purchasing an enamel cast iron kitchen sink, stainless steel kitchen sink, or cast acrylic kitchen sink you will need to order it with the correct drilling. If you are installing granite countertops you also will want to order the correct drilling for your faucet and appurtenances. Granite tops typically have an under-mount stainless steel kitchen sink which is usually installed by the granite top contractor. It is common to have the sink installed on-site. A twenty-four-hour dry time for the silicone is then required. The plumber will not install the faucet, disposal, basket strainer, and drain piping until the next day.
