Florestone 60″ x 34″ Fiberglass Shower Base

For this bathroom remodel project I am replacing a tub with a shower base. I have chosen to install the Florestone 6034-1 shower base. I am impressed with how stout it is for a fiberglass base. This unit has an integral shower drain so I do not need a separate shower drain. The 2″ PVC drain piping is set with a 2″ IPS wedge-lock seal into the integral drain outlet.

To Install A Florestone Fiberglass Shower Base I Set It In A Mud Bed

As a Licensed Master Plumber with over thirty-five years in the trades, I have seen a lot of shower base installs. I always check the manufacturer’s recommendations and installation instructions. Most suggest setting the base in a mud bed. I set all fiberglass bases in a mud bed. It makes for a much more solid and stable installation.

Plumb The Drain To The Shower Base

Shower Bases require a 2″ drain and a 2″ P-Trap.

Water Test The Shower Base For Leaks

Once I have plumbed the drain I water test the shower base for leaks. I place a test-plug in the drain outlet and fill the base with water. Then I check for leaks. Once I am certain there are no leaks, the tile backer board can be hung on the walls
